Methamphetamine Harm Reduction Programme
We are excited to announce a new initiative aimed at addressing methamphetamine harm in the Eastern Bay of Plenty.This comprehensive programme includes a seven-bed residential facility and a community-based whānau support service. Located in Ōpōtiki
Programme Overview
The Pou Oranga Whaiora programme is funded by the Proceeds of Crime fund and is designed to provide holistic support for individuals and families affected by methamphetamine use.

Collaborative Efforts
Te Pou Oranga o Whakatōhea, representing the Eastern Bay Iwi Provider Alliance, has partnered with the Bay of Plenty Police, Bay of Plenty District Health Board, and the Ministry of Health to bring this programme to life. This collaboration ensures a well-rounded approach to methamphetamine harm reduction, combining expertise from various sectors.
Comprehensive Care
The residential facility and services will be managed by a dedicated team, including psychiatrists, registered healthcare professionals, support workers, and a facility manager.
The team will provide 24/7 care and support to ensure the well-being and recovery of all residents.
Community Leadership
The application for funding from the Proceeds of Crime fund was led by Detective Sergeant Darren Thomas of the Bay of Plenty Police. His initiative and recognition of the need for enhanced support services for methamphetamine reduction have been instrumental in launching this programme.
